Image Stitching
Stitch 2 to 4 overlapping photos into one panorama.
What does the image stitcher do?
The freeimgtool image stitcher merges several photos that share overlapping content into a single seamless image. Use it to build a panorama from horizontal sweep shots, to combine multiple photos of a long whiteboard, or to flatten a large document captured in several frames. Under the hood it runs OpenCV's stitching pipeline: feature detection, matching, homography estimation, exposure compensation, and blending.
Two modes are available. Panorama assumes a rotation around the camera and is the default for outdoor scenes. Flat scan assumes a translation across a flat surface and is the right choice for stitching pages, whiteboards, or maps shot top-down.
How to use it
- Click the upload box and pick 2 to 4 photos (up to 5 MB each).
- Re-order the photos with the up/down buttons so they line up left to right or top to bottom.
- Choose Panorama or Flat scan.
- Click Stitch.
- Click Download panorama to save the result.
Tips for a clean stitch
- Aim for 30–50% overlap between neighboring shots.
- Keep exposure and focus consistent between frames.
- Avoid moving subjects in the overlapping area.
- Hold the camera level so the horizon does not jump.
- For flat scans, shoot straight-on, not at an angle.
Who uses it
Travelers turning a sweep of phone photos into a wide landscape. Real estate agents combining wide-angle room shots. Students photographing a long whiteboard or a whole document. Drone hobbyists assembling map tiles. Anyone whose camera could not fit the scene in one frame.
Frequently asked questions
How many photos can I stitch?
Between 2 and 6 per run. The free server caps it at 6 to keep memory bounded.
Why did the stitch fail with "could not align images"?
The photos do not share enough overlap, or the overlap is in a low-detail area like a plain sky. Re-take with more overlap, or remove the weakest frame and retry.
Should I use Panorama or Flat scan?
Outdoor scenes shot by rotating in place: Panorama. Flat objects shot by sliding the camera sideways: Flat scan.
Does the order of photos matter?
For best results, order them left-to-right (or top-to-bottom) using the up/down arrows. The stitcher does its own match-finding but a sensible order gives a cleaner first pass.
Is this free?
Yes. No signup, no premium tier. Display ads support the site.
What output format do I get?
JPG at high quality. Easy to share, attach, and embed.
Will the result have seams or color jumps?
Usually no — the stitcher blends and exposure-compensates between frames. If you see seams, your inputs probably have very different exposures or moving subjects in the overlap.
Are my photos stored?
Uploads are kept only long enough to return the panorama link and are removed automatically. Privacy policy has the details.
