Photo to Cartoon
Cartoon, comic or bold stylized look in one click.
What does the photo-to-cartoon tool do?
The freeimgtool cartoon tool turns a normal photo into a stylized version that looks hand-drawn. It uses edge-preserving smoothing to flatten colors into clean regions, then overlays adaptive edge masks to draw cartoon-like outlines around shapes. The result keeps the composition of the original but trades fine texture for bold flat color.
Three styles are available. Cartoon uses posterized colors and crisp edges — the classic comic-book look. Anime applies stronger smoothing and thinner outlines to mimic Japanese animation cels. Bold uses OpenCV stylization for a painted-and-inked look with heavier outlines.

Frequently asked questions
Is this anime tool free?
Yes. No signup, no premium tier. Display ads support the site.
What is the maximum upload size?
Five megabytes per photo. Compress first with the image compressor if your file is larger.
Does it use a real AI model?
Not a deep AnimeGAN. This version uses classical computer vision filters that run in seconds on a small server. A true AnimeGAN tier is on the roadmap for the upgraded server.
Which style works best on selfies?
Anime usually flatters portraits best because the smoother skin tones look more polished. Cartoon is better on group photos and outdoor shots.
Is the output watermarked?
No. The downloaded JPG is clean.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The upload box opens the camera roll or the camera directly on most phones.
Is my photo stored?
Uploads are kept only long enough to return a download link and are removed automatically. Privacy policy has the details.
Can I get a vector/SVG version?
Not yet. The output is JPG. Vector conversion is a roadmap item.
