What is the image resizer?

The freeimgtool image resizer is a free online tool that changes the pixel dimensions of an image. Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP, type in the width or height you want, and download the resized file. There is no signup, no watermark, no upsell, and nothing is stored permanently. It works the same on a phone, tablet, or laptop.

Behind the scenes the tool uses the Pillow imaging library with the Lanczos resampling filter. Lanczos produces sharper results than nearest-neighbor or bilinear, especially when shrinking large photos for the web. The original format is preserved, so a PNG with transparency stays a PNG with transparency, and a WebP stays a WebP.

How to use it

  1. Click the upload box and choose an image (up to 5 MB).
  2. Enter the width or height in pixels. With aspect lock on, the other dimension fills in automatically.
  3. Uncheck "Lock aspect ratio" if you want to stretch the image to exact dimensions.
  4. Click Resize and wait a second.
  5. Click Download to save the result.

Why use this resizer

Most image resizers online either lock the file behind a paywall, ask for an email, force a JPEG conversion that breaks transparent PNGs, or quietly recompress the image after resizing. freeimgtool does none of those things. The output keeps the original format and is processed at high quality so it stays sharp. It is the simplest, most honest resizer we could ship.

Who uses it

Bloggers shrinking hero images so a page loads faster. Online sellers preparing product photos for Etsy, eBay, or Shopify. Students fitting an image into a presentation slide. Developers preparing icons and screenshots for a README. Designers making a quick mockup. Anyone who got an email back saying "the attachment is too big."

Frequently asked questions

Is this image resizer really free?

Yes. There is no signup, no premium tier, and no usage cap on normal personal use. The site is supported by display ads.

What is the maximum upload size?

Five megabytes per file. That covers nearly every JPG and WebP and most PNG screenshots. If you need to resize a larger photo, compress it first using our image compressor.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. The page is mobile-friendly and the upload box accepts photos straight from the camera roll.

Will the format change?

No. JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG, WebP stays WebP. PNG transparency is preserved. If you want a different format, use our image format converter instead.

What does "lock aspect ratio" do?

When the lock is on, changing the width auto-fills a matching height so the image is not stretched. Turn the lock off if you want a deliberate squash or stretch to an exact size.

Can I upscale a small image?

Yes, up to 10000 pixels on a side. Be aware that upscaling does not invent new detail — pixels are interpolated. For real upscaling we have an AI image enhancer on the roadmap.

Is my image stored?

Uploads are kept only long enough to generate the download link and are removed automatically afterward. See the privacy policy for details.

How is the image quality kept high?

The resizer uses Lanczos resampling and saves JPEG at quality 92 and WebP at quality 90. That is well above the default many tools use. The output stays sharp and visually identical to the original at the requested size.
