What does the style transfer tool do?
The freeimgtool style transfer tool reshapes a regular photo to look like a painting, a watercolor, or an oil-paint artwork. Three styles are available out of the box. Behind the scenes the tool uses OpenCV stylization and edge-preserving smoothing tuned for each look. Painting gives soft brushy gradients. Watercolor adds light saturation and paper-like color washes. Oil paint uses heavy bilateral filtering plus posterized colors to mimic thick paint strokes.
This version is algorithmic, not a deep neural style transfer. Results are stable, fast, and free. A deep neural style transfer tier is on the roadmap for the upgraded server.
How to use it
- Click the upload box and pick a photo (up to 5 MB).
- Choose Painting, Watercolor, or Oil paint.
- Click Apply style.
- Click Download to save the result.

Does it use a real neural style transfer model?
Not on this tier. The current version uses classical filters tuned for each look. Deep neural style transfer with reference-image style targets is on the roadmap for the upgraded server.
Which style works best on portraits?
Painting usually flatters faces best because it smooths tones without losing structure. Oil paint can look heavy on close-ups but is great on landscapes and still-lives.
Is the output watermarked?
No. The downloaded JPG is clean.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The upload box accepts photos straight from the camera roll.
Is my photo stored?
Uploads are kept only long enough to return a download link and are removed automatically. Privacy policy has the details.
Can I upload my own style reference?
Not yet. Reference-image style targets need a heavier model. They are on the roadmap.
